Weishan Lake Four nosed Carp

        The four nosed carp is the most famous fish species in Weishan Lake. According to legend, Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty was on a southern tour when a dragon boat arrived at Weishan Lake. A fisherman presented this carp, and Emperor Qianlong was surprised to see that this fish had four nostrils. The accompanying minister had a sudden idea and said that this fish had four nostrils, and that it was auspicious for the four seas to rise flat and for the five grains to be abundant. Qianlong was overjoyed and ordered the imperial chef to cook it, which was indeed tender and delicious. He rewarded the fisherman greatly and asked him to pay tribute every year for the emperor's consumption. Therefore, the four hole carp in Weishan Lake became famous throughout the world and its value doubled. The four hole carp in Weishan Lake is a herbivorous fish, with an average weight of 2-4 kilograms for adult fish and over 20 kilograms for larger ones. This carp has delicate meat and a delicious taste, with a protein content 30% -50% higher than pork and about 20% higher than eggs. It is also regarded as a mascot, making it an essential delicacy for banquets and feasts in Weishan Lake area. Common methods include sweet and sour, braised, spicy, steamed, etc.
